Alexis Jordan Makes Acting Debut In "Sprite Refreshing" Short Film

Watch out Hollywood! There's a new star in town! Roc Nation's "good girl" Alexis Jordan has added acting to her resume. Alexis will be acting in a short film directed by Chicago-area students who were selected to participate in Sprite's Refreshing Films program.

The program is designed to engage youth with challenging opportunities to leverage their talents, spark fresh thinking and realize their potential for greatness behind the camera and beyond. “Sprite Refreshing Films encompasses what the Sprite brand is about, it sparks creativity among young people and encourages them to take on unique opportunities that they wouldn’t find anywhere else,” said Caren Pasquale Seckler, vice president, Sparkling Non-Colas, Coca-Cola.

In the film, Alexis plays a character named Swift Justice. The film will premiere on spriterefreshingfilms.com, and you can cast your vote for your favorite film from April 1-May 2.

WAPS interviews ‘Good Girl’ Alexis Jordan

Alexis Jordan seemed to appear out of nowhere with last October’s dance hit ‘Happiness’. Her new single ‘Good Girl’ is out this week, with her self-titled debut album following on Monday (28th February.) Here’s what she had to say for herself when we had a chinwag earlier this week.

You featured on America’s Got Talent when you were just 14. For the uninitiated, please tell us a little bit about what happened next.
Of course I didn’t win the show [but] I was very grateful to get that experience. After that, I started to put up YouTube videos [link to channel] and at first I didn’t want to do it. My mom was the one who was like, “Come on, let’s just try it, it can’t hurt to try it.” From there StarRoc – which is Stargate and Jay-Z – saw me on YouTube and signed me. And I was very very happy and excited. At the time I was 16 years old.

How would you describe your debut album and which are your favourite tracks?
I would describe my album as very universal, I have songs on there that tell a story in every single song and I like that about my album. For example, ‘Happiness’ is talking about finding love in yourself before you find it in someone else. ‘Good Girl’ is telling you you can better yourself, even if your past isn’t as good as your present. One of my favourite songs on the album is ‘Habit’ and ‘Love Mist’ of course… ‘How You Like Me Now’, I want to say my whole album is great. I’m very excited.

‘Happiness’ is a big dance tune and so is the follow up ‘Good Girl’. How did the sound come about?
It came to me from Stargate and this songwriter, Autumn. They were like “We have this song for you Alexis,” and I was like, “Play it for me.” I was like, “Turn it up, turn it up!”, and we recorded it in less than hour. I love the sound, it sounds so clean and crisp.

Can you tell us a bit more about some of the songs?
‘Good Girl’ is about a girl who has a little naughty side. She wants to be a good girl for this guy and loves the way he treats her. It’s a girl’s anthem; your past shouldn’t matter how you’re going to be in the future.
‘Habit’ and ‘Love Mist’ are both my favourite, they’re hardcore attitude songs. So are ‘How You Like Me Now’ and ‘Shout Shout’ [which uses a sample of Tears For Fears] and High Road. [Sings] “I’m walking in the club, with my high heels on…”

The UK is the first market to release your album, rather than the US. How does it feel to be starting out in Europe, and what are your plans for America?
I feel very blessed to start from Europe. And hopefully in the summer we’ll go to the US and build and build and build.

You featured on ‘Together’ with Tinchy Stryder. How did that come about?
RocNation [artist management company founded by Jay-Z] manage Tinchy and they were like, “Alexis, there’s this song and you would sound great together on it.” It’s just a fun and light-hearted song. I loved it.

Who else would you like to collaborate with?
I’d love to collaborate with Kanye West, because his music is so unique.

Dance is very on-trend at the moment, though your album is quite evenly split between dance and a more acoustic / ballad-driven sound. What direction do you see your music taking in the future?
I feel like my music will travel from not only dance, but also hopefully into country. I don’t want to be put in a box, so not just only dance songs, but also r&b, pop or even strong, Whitney Houston-type songs.

One song on the album, ‘Say That’, I feel it has that country vibe with the guitar. Andit would be great to cross over to country. I love Taylor Swift. She’s a really great country artist, and not only is it totally relatable, but it’s also crossing over to the pop-side, because it’s relatable to the whole world.

In ‘Good Girl’ you sing “I can be a good girl, but I’ve been bad before”. What’s the baddest thing you’ve ever done?
The baddest thing I’ve done? Oh, I’m really a good girl. The baddest thing I’ve done, is probably cheat on a test at school. I’m a really good, good, girl. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink or have any tattoos.

Well, you have plenty of time to cover your body in tattoos

ALEXIS JORDAN: I'VE TEAMED UP WITH JAY-Z

ALEXIS Jordan has superstar boss Jay-Z under her thumb.


Dinky US diva Alexis Jordan is signed to hip-hop honcho Jay-Z’s Star Roc/Roc Nation record label and management company – but says he plays by her rules.

The 19-year-old, whose Good Girl looks set for a Top Five chart spot, told me: “Jay is very supportive but at the same time he knows I have a creative side and a vision of my own, so it’s kind of all me.

“Everything – from the band to the dancers, their outfits, their hair, my outfits, the songs I want to put out next – it’s me.

“He lets me do my own thing. Normally artists’ record labels choose what songs go on their album.

“But Jay let me pick the majority of my album.

“Is he a bit of a softie behind closed doors? Yeah.”

Alexis, left, was excited to meet Rihanna – who’s also on 41-year-old Jay’s books – recently, too.

But she’s adamant she doesn’t want to collaborate with the 23-year-old Bajan ace.

Yet.

“It would be really cool to work with her one day but right now I’m trying to put my own stamp on the world.

“I liked hanging out with her, though. She’s a lot of fun – very different and very energetic.”

To top it all, Alexis’s self-titled debut album is out Monday and she’s excited.

“It’s my baby. I can’t wait to go in the stores and see it.”

'Good Girl' singer plays famous club

Alexis Jordan is making the most of her time in London, and seems to be loving every minute of it!

The 'Happiness' singer performed at London's famous G.A.Y nightclub Heaven last Saturday, looking every inch the diva in a black ruffled dress and thigh high boots.

The 18-year-old performed tracks off her upcoming self-titled album, including her top three dance hit 'Happiness' and new single 'Good Girl'.

Jay-Z's young protegee also took time out of her busy schedule to check out London Fashion Week and was seen gettting cosy with rapper Tinie Tempah at the Brits after-party.

'Alexis Jordan' is out on February 28.

"This opportunity will only come once in my life," coos 18-year-old Alexis Jordan on her breakthrough single (and first track on this album), Happiness. It's about a romantic liaison, but could equally mean she's aware that there are thousands of young American singers just as capable of carrying off undemanding pop like this. Signed to Jay-Z's label and produced by Rihanna/Ne-Yo songwriters Stargate, Jordan is reputed to have a voice worth hearing, but here it's been AutoTuned or buried under layers of Stargate's trademark clattery beats, to the point where any distinctiveness is lost. She bursts free of her restraints just long enough on the unadorned ballad The Air That I Breathe (not the Hollies song) to show she's capable of more than her producers are allowing her, but the rest of the album is consumed by samey uptempo fare. Happiness and Good Girl jog along catchily, but Rihanna doesn't have to be worried quite yet.

Alexis Jordan Dedicates Album To Her Fans

Jay-Z's protegee Alexis Jordan has dedicated her upcoming album to her fans, as a thank you for supporting her over the years.

The 'Happiness' singer, who performed at London's G.A.Y club last Saturday, dedicated the album track 'Say That' to her ardent fans, promising them diversity in the record.

In an interview with Digital Spy, the 'Good Girl' star said: "I would say it's one of those records that is dedicated to my fans "I'm saying, 'say that it's us' - that even if things don't work out - then at least we still have each other!

"I have to thank my fans on this record because they've been more supportive than I could have ever imagined. This is the song where I'm asking them to stay with me."

Jordan also revealed that she's influenced by various genres of music and is not afraid to show her fiesty side!

When discussing album track 'Hush Hush', the 18-year-old said: "You're talking about this guy who is not good for you, and you want him, but you know it's wrong!

"The thing I love about this track is that it has a dance beat that is irresistible. You can't not dance to it! It's also quite fierce and feisty, but in a fun and positive way."

She also added: "I think anybody can relate to it, everyone has had someone in their life who has treated them badly in some way."

Jordan also described the recording sessions as a "very calm and fun process" and felt "blessed" to be working with her recording team and mentor Jay-Z.
